SIMON GREEN lecture

'A Scottish Architect Abroad - Robert Lorimer's work in England and further afield'

Lorimer is rightly recognised as one of Scotland's most important Edwardian architects producing buildings that are intrinsically Scottish and also distinctively 'Lorimerian' . This talk will examine how he responded to the different vernacular styles in England and elsewhere utilising different materials but still adding his own style. It will illustrate his work outwith Scotland and relate it to some of his Scottish work. It will celebrate an aspect of his work that often gets overlooked.

Lorimer made the decision to stay in Scotland and we have benefitted greatly from that whereas a number of his friends and contemporaries moved south. Simon believes that Lorimer could have had a very successful practice in London, but thankfully he did not.

ST MARY'S MUSIC SCHOOL chamber concert
