Updated: Nov 6, 2021

Exhibition now open at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh

Daily 10am to 5pm, 6 November 2021 to 20 March 2022

The Lorimer Society is proud to announce the opening of our joint exhibition with the City Art Centre, Edinburgh, Reflections: The light and life of John Henry Lorimer (1856-1936). This, the first exhibition dedicated to Lorimer, is co-curated by Charlotte Lorimer of the Lorimer Society and David Patterson of the City Art Centre. The exhibition sees almost fifty oil paintings, watercolours, sketches and objects come together at the City Art Centre in Edinburgh and explores Lorimer’s art through five themes: Light, Identity, Family, Femininity and Home.

The exhibition is accompanied by a diverse series of events for all the family, including poetry readings, art workshops, talks and fashion shows inspired by the work of John Henry Lorimer. From November 2021 to February 2022 the events will be online. We hope that in-person events will be possible from March 2022. Details of all the events and booking requirements can be found on our Events page.

A beautifully illustrated book, Reflections, edited by Elizabeth Cumming, Scotland’s leading expert on Arts and Crafts artists and designers, is published by Sansom & Company to accompany the exhibition. Like the exhibition, the book explores Lorimer’s paintings through key themes: Light, Identity, Family, Femininity, Home/Place. Contributors include Martin Kemp, Antonia Laurence Allen, Charlotte Lorimer, Monica Lorimer, Robin Lorimer, and Duncan Macmillan. The book is available at £20 from the City Art Centre shop, Topping & Company, and all good booksellers.
